Kovacevich, Albert C. "Al" 1926 - 2007 | Piasecki-Althaus Funeral Home

In Memory Of Albert C. (Al) Kovacevich

Albert "Al" C. Kovacevich, age 80 of Kenosha, died on July 8, 2007 at home, surrounded by his loving family. Although he was not huge in size, he was known to many as "Big Al" Born on December 16, 1926 in Litchfield, IL, he was the son of the late John and Mary (Hrebik) Kovacevich. He attended schools in Mt. Olive, IL, and was a graduate of the Layton School of Art in Milwaukee. While working his way through school in Milwaukee, he was employed as a cement finisher. He did not pursue a career in art, however because of his love for the outdoors and building "something from nothing" he chose to remain in the concrete construction business his entire career. Albert proudly served our country in the United States Army during World War II as a Sergeant. On May 29, 1954 in St. Louis Catholic Church in Caledonia, Albert Kovacevich married his beautiful bride, Carol Braun. Together they raised four devoted, proud children. He was a member of St. Peter"s Catholic Church, and a member of the Cement Finishers Union. His life was filled with excitement, challenges, laughter, and most of all, love. He enjoyed fishing and hunting with friends and family and had a great eye for detail when he put his paintbrush to canvas to capture a snapshot from his mind. He was as diverse in his skills as he was with the unique phrases and words he used to describe life. "Dadisms" will always be a part of every family gathering"and will keep his memory alive in the hearts of those who loved him so. Anyone who knew him admired his sense of humor, strength and spirit. Even in his last days he could make you smile. Al devoted his life to his family and friends. If you needed advice on how to best complete a project, he was the man to contact. Not only could he provide the best advice, he would be there to help you finish the project. Al loved to cook and one of his favorite pleasures in life was to gather the entire family around the dinner table and share stories of his many experiences through life. A favorite memory of his family will always be the time he hitchhiked cross-country to see his Mom. He wanted to experience all he could in life even though several medical conditions kept him at bay more than he wanted to be. Only last March while visiting his daughter in Arizona, Al decided he needed to experience flying an ultra light aircraft. To say that Albert was talented would be an understatement. Before his health deteriorated, he perfected his woodworking skills. Not only did he finish his own home with the detail of a craftsman, but he also made furniture for his children. He thoroughly enjoyed keeping himself busy with projects. As a perfectionist, he put his heart, soul and hands into everything he did. Once his health challenged his normal project lists, Al turned his energies to building models. He would not allow illness to deprive him of his desire to remain active and express himself creatively. He will be remembered by all who knew him as a "Real Character" and the "Life of the Party". Thanks to his perspectives on the world, he"s left many pieces of himself for others to enjoy for many years to come. The emptiness he left behind is an example of the fulfilling life he shared with all who knew him. Al will be greatly missed. Survivors include his wife, Carol of Kenosha; his four children: Karen (Bruce) Laken of Kenosha, Debra (DeWayne) Adamson of Scottsdale, AZ, Joseph (Laura) Kovacevich of Holmen, WI, and Steven (Melissa) Kovacevich of Mindoro, WI; seven grandchildren: Eric, Justin, Aubrey, Tori, Hannah, Jessica, and Brianna; and a sister, Rose Bezotte of Kenosha. Along with his parents, Al was preceded in death by two brothers: Joseph Roubal, and Peter Kovacevich.
