Raymond Arthur Viehweg, 80, of Mt. Olive died Saturday, May 16, 2009, at 4:40 a.m. in Memorial Medical Center, Springfield.

Funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday, May, 19, at 11 a.m. in the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Mt. Olive. The Rev. Daniel Barbey will officiate, and burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation is tonight, Monday, May 18, from 6 until 8 p.m. at Becker and Son Funeral Home in Mt. Olive.

Mr. Viehweg was born Jan. 19, 1929, in Litchfield to Carl Gustav and Clara Frieda (Doehler) Viegweg. He graduated from Mt. Olive High in 1948. He attended the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Mt. Olive, and he served as president and vice-president of the congregation. He also served as secretary for their synod.

He had worked as an accountant/bookkeeper for Scheller Insurance and had been employed by Litchfield Hospital. Once a justice of the peace, he served as general assistance clerk for Mt. Olive Township until his retirement.

He served as an officer for the Mt. Olive Academic Foundation and was secretary of the Mt. Olive Senior Citizens. In addition, he belonged to the Turner Hall and was a former member of the Mt. Olive Lion's Club. An election judge, he was active in the Mother Jones Jubilee and was a noted Cardinal fan, bowler, bingo, and pinocle player.

He is survived by two brothers, Norman Viegweg, and Otto (wife Joan) Viehweg, all of Mt. Olive; three nephews, Mike (wife Marilyn) Viehweg of White City, Ed (wife Debbie) Viehweg of Mt. Olive, and John Viehweg of Kula, HI; one niece, Cathy (husband Vince) Johnston of Invergrove Heights, MN; and great-nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents. The family suggests memorials be directed to the Mt. Olive Academic Foundation or to the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery.

Services for 98 year old Bertha Agnes Soapes, of Staunton, were conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday January 15, 2000, at Becker and Son Funeral Home.
Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery in Staunton.
Visitation was held from 6 p.m. to 8 pm. Friday, January 15.
Mrs. Soapes died at 9:10 a.m. Thursday, January 13, 2000, in Community Memorial Hospital in Staunton.
She was born on Tuesday, December 17, 1901, in Mt. Olive, a daughter of Paul and Martha Schrieter Scheller.  She married Ralph "Cotton" Soapes on June 6, 1925 in Decatur, IL.  He preceded her in death on October 10, 1980.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ralph; four brothers Bernard, Fred, Louis and Carl Scheller.

ALBIN C. VIEHWEG WAS CALLED BY DEATH TUESDAY MORNING
Albin C. Viehweg, one of this community's well known residents, was called to final rest Tuesday morning at 8:15 o'clock at St. Francis hospital in Litchfield where he had been a patient since October 21. Mr. Viehweg was born in Germany on Sept. 11, 1876, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Carl Viehweg.  He reached the age of 83 years, 1 month and 16 days.
He came to this city about 67 years ago and on June 26, 1897 was married to Miss Lydia Bauer.  Prior to retirement, he was employed at Mine No. 15 for many years. His wife preceded him in death on Dec. 15, 1946.  He is survived by one son, Carl G. Viehweg, of this city; two daughters: Mrs. David Dawkins of this city and Mrs. William Gould of St. Louis, Mo.; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.  Four brothers, four sisters, two sons and one daughter also preceded him in death. Final rites will take place this (Thursday) afternoon at 2:00 o'clock at Becker & Son funeral Home, with Rev. Eugene Guenther, pastor of Immanuel Lutheran Church, officiating. Interment will be in Union Miners' cemetary.

Final rites for Albin C. Viehweg took place last Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock at Becker & Son Funeral Home, with Rev. Eugene Guenther, pastor of Immanuel Lutheran Church, officiating. Two hymns, "The Old Rugged Cross" and "In The Garden," were sung by Alfred Haenel and Carl Haller. Alberts of Staunton; Mr. and Mrs. H. Rink and John Rink of Fosterburg; Lee Dale Viehweg of Lewistown; Mr. and Mrs. Emil Jubelt of Gillespie. Mr. Viehweg, a resident of this city for 67 years, was called by death last week Tuesday at St. Francis hospital in Litchfield at the age of 83 years.  He is survived by one son, two daughters and a host of more distant relatives.

Services will be conducted for 84 year old Amanda Allison Bauer, of Mt. Olive, at 10 a.m. Friday, June 2, 2000 at Becker and Son Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 8 a.m. until time of services at 10 a.m. Friday.  Burial will be in Union Miners Cemetery. Mrs. Bauer died Tuesday, May 30, 2000, at 9:40 a.m in Litchfield Health Care Center, in Litchfield. Mrs. Bauer was born in Mt. Olive on January 13, 1912, a daughter of Joseph and Hattie Bohlen Kilgore.   She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Mt. Olive where she was baptized on December 28, 1912 and confirmed on April 10, 1923.  She attended Mr. Olive Grade School through the sixth grade.  She married Herman Ernest Bauer on May 14, 1931 in Edwardsville and he preceded her in death on March 20, 1950. She was a member of the American Legion and Progressive Miner's Auxiliaries. Surviving is a son Milton Dale Bauer of Litchfield. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and a brother, James M. Kilgore. The family suggests memorials to Union Miners Cemetery.

GIRARD - Carl Eugene "Gene" Fitzgerald, 80, of Girard passed away Tuesday, March 2, 2010, at St. John's Hospital in Springfield.

He was born Thursday, October 24, 1929, in Cisne, IL, the son of Carl A. and Mildred Alice (Minor) Fitzgerald. He married Rosemary Eileen Rucker at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Girard on June 11, 1949. They celebrated their 60th anniversary last summer.

Gene worked for Girard Elevator before working for his brother Leroy at Fitzgerald Elevator Repair. After Leroy's passing, he became partners with his nephew Dave Fitzgerald and their company became Grainland Construction. He retired in December of 1994.

Survivors, wife, Rosemary Eileen Fitzgerald; daughter, Linda Upp (Randy) of Girard, IL, daughter, Donna Dugger (George) of Girard, IL, daughter, Jeannine Goss (Richard) of Plainfield, IL, daughter, Elaine Edge (Darrell) of Hannibal, MO; 9 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; sister, Helen Gardner (Speck) of Girard, IL, sister, Maggie Gravelle (Wayne) of Girard, IL.

He was preceded in death by parents; brothers, Leroy, Francis "Fuzz" and infant, Bobby Fitzgerald; and sister, Faye Nichols.

Gene was an avid Cardinal fan. He enjoyed his daily walk and talking with friends and neighbors he met along the way. He loved all children and was especially proud of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, March 4 at Davis-Anderson Funeral Home in Girard, IL. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 5, 2010, at Davis-Anderson Funeral Home. Burial will be in Girard Cemetery.
